Fall Into Fall - Day One

Hello and welcome to a week of Fall fun. Each day for the next week ending with Friday August 31st will be Fall or Halloween posts with crafts, recipes, tips, etc. Let the fun begin:
Today I have a very cute Pumpkin Pincushion that I made with a pattern in a magazine Simple Quilts & Sewing - Winter 2011. This is just the cutest thing and easy to make, if you can make a 4-patch block, you can make this. I changed the leaf on my pumpkin, the pattern showed the leaf with fabric I liked the idea of doing a leaf with wool. It was simple too, I did a running stitch down the middle and pulled a bit to curl the leaf. The pattern gives you instructions for how to curl the ribbon by spraying with spray starch wrapping it around a wooden dowel, pinning on each end with clothespins and putting in a 200 degree oven for 4-5 minutes. I tried doing mine outside but it wasn't quite enough for the curl to stay so I came up with the idea of wrapping it around my husbands screwdriver and touching lightly with the iron, it worked really well. I used variegated orange pearl floss to wrap around and form the pumpkin. This was a fun project to make.

Here's a fun Halloween treat with cookies. I made these last year. Cute ghosts using Nutter Butter cookies. Dip in melted white chocolate and use a mini chocolate chip for the eyes. I made the ghosts and put them into plastic bags then put them inside the little plastic pumpkins to give as gifts. We camped with some of our teardrop trailer friends last October so I gave them these little pumpkins. One of our friends has this orange pick-up truck so we used that as a way to display my little tray of pumpkins.

Here's the little ghosts on a tray. You can better see in this photo what they look like.

When we were on our October camping trip we took a drive to look for Fall Leaves. Here's a couple pictures my dogs Buster and Betty with the Fall Leaves.

Tip of the day: Here's a free Fall pattern from Eleanor Burns Quilt in a Day. This pattern is cool because you can make a Fall Leaf or a Turkey.

Thanks for visiting and I'll see you again tomorrow.
